Lyric mezzo-soprano Joohyun Grace Kim is recognized for her rich, warm timbre and distinctive vocal presence, and is building a versatile career across opera and concert repertoire. Her repertoire spans Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary opera, reflecting a passion for both dramatic storytelling and musical versatility.

In the 2026–27 season, Grace appears as Dritte Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Her upcoming 2027 engagements include Federico García Lorca in Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar and Mistress Quickly in Verdi’s Falstaff.

Her operatic repertoire includes Melissa in Handel’s Alcina, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, and La Frugola in Puccini’s Il Tabarro. Additional credits include Madame de la Haltière in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Susanna in Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles, Flora Bervoix in Verdi’s La Traviata, and Presendia in Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters.

Grace has participated in professional festivals and training programs across the United States. She served as a Young Artist with Opera San Antonio in collaboration with the Classical Music Institute, where she performed scenes as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus. She has also appeared as an artist with Austin Opera Festival and Music On Site, and as an Emerging Artist with the Victoria Bach Festival.

In addition to her operatic work, Grace is an active concert soloist. She has appeared twice as alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah and as a soloist in Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël. Her concert repertoire also includes the role of Vedushchiy in Shostakovich’s Antiformalist Rayok.

In 2026, Grace received the Lynne Stow Piccolo Award (Second Prize) at Opera Connecticut’s American Opera Idol Competition. She was also recognized with an Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (Colorado–Wyoming District) in 2025.

Grace has worked in masterclasses with Dr. Stephen King, Ashley Dixon, Francesco Milioto, and Limmie Pulliam.

Originally from South Korea and currently based in Austin, Texas, Kim is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Opera Performance at The University of Texas at Austin. She holds both a Master of Music and a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes School of Music in New York.
