Lyric mezzo-soprano Joohyun Grace Kim is recognized for her rich, warm timbre and distinctive vocal presence, and is building a versatile career across opera and concert repertoire. Her repertoire spans Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary opera, reflecting a passion for both dramatic storytelling and musical versatility.

Recent and upcoming performances include Melissa in Handel’s Alcina, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, and La Frugola in Puccini’s Il Tabarro. Additional operatic credits include Madame de la Haltière in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Susanna in Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles, Flora Bervoix in Verdi’s La Traviata, and Presendia in Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters. Her performance experience also includes repertoire from Purcell, Cavalli, Strauss, and Puccini, demonstrating a broad artistic range that extends from early music to contemporary works.

Kim has participated in several distinguished professional training programs and festivals. She served as a Young Artist with Opera San Antonio in collaboration with the Classical Music Institute, where she also performed scenes as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus. She has appeared as an artist with Austin Opera Festival and Music On Site, and was selected as an Emerging Artist for the Victoria Bach Festival.

An active concert performer, Kim has appeared twice as alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah and as a soloist in Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio. Her concert repertoire also includes the speaking role of Vedushchiy (Speaker) in Shostakovich’s Antiformalist Rayok.

In 2025, Kim received an Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition (Colorado–Wyoming District). She has worked in masterclasses with internationally recognized artists Francesco Milioto and Limmie Pulliam.

Originally from South Korea and currently based in Austin, Texas, Kim is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Opera Performance at The University of Texas at Austin. She holds both a Master of Music and a Professional Studies Diploma from the Mannes School of Music in New York.
